I found this article about the 2002 playoffs (nba) saying all of the things Ive been saying minus a few points since I watched the game. The Kings are one of the oldest teams in the league and have never won a championship or played in the nba championship finals to my knowledge. You have teams like Boston, Lakers, Knicks, Pistons and others as well who all are big markets winning the nba championship. Take Miami for instance started in 1988, Bulls 1966, Spurs 1977, Houston 1967 all big markets and all have championships where are all of the smaller market teams. I see the kings getting to a point and someone or something stops them cold , I almost kicked my television when I watched the Kings get cheated. David Sterns is a joke and has proven his colors more than once. Why did the fans lose interest in the Seatle Supersonics why not ask Sterns. Seattle 1978/1979 and Portland 1976/1977 did win a championship both teams represented a whole state each unlike Sacramento who is one of 4 teams and hasn't won yet. I found the Kings leaving Gerald Wallace unprotected and being grabbed by the Bobcats also interesting since he was the most exciting new player on the team, everyone here in Sacramento couldn't believe that one either. Tell me the NBA didn't have their finger in that one also I didn't see anyone of great value going from one of the larger markets. I wonder if their is some kind of a kick back going on between the nba and the owners we should know about. What good does boycotting the olympics do just hurt a bunch of young kids who might only have this one chance to do a life altering challenge or maybe win a medal. I can't get it when people want to boycott something that doesn't work never has and never will.

thanks for this, DZ. sports and politics is an enormous subject, and I had no idea Nader cared. the last two paragraphs of the interview couldn't be said better.

A couple of thoughts: how much did Nader's focus on the fans in the 70's have to do with supplementing Marvin Miller's astounding successes with baseball players? Sports of course coould be the "moral equivalent of war" - and of the international sports, none is riper for improvement of the players' status than tennis; while at the same time, the PRESENTATION of the sport of tennis is abomnable, still confused and confusing, etc, etc. Does Nader, or do you, see much possiblity that if the Chipmunk attacks Iran, a chain of events might follow resulting in the US boycotting the China Olympics?
