Dan e, I also write editorials which do get published once a month. Same thing. Screw Israel, basically. I have received several threats via phone, more than once.
I always include my e-mail address.
Ans I invite them over, as a rule.

hp: right again, nailed it.

Edwin Pell is likewise right on the money when updated to incl. string of radio & TV stations. Of course "owning a press" has to include a distribution system. Even to have enough freebie-boxes to give your paper away citywide demands investment possessed only the Bigtime Press or ZPC-backed outfits like latest resurrectors of the Sacramento Union, which even Richard Mellon Scaife gave up on. Wonder what hand he may have in the latest version...? But Pell is in essence abs. right.

I got to digressing so forgot to compliment Bro. Matory on focus & content. I do appreciate it when the Intimidation Factor is discussed. Editor of Sac Bee letters page thought I was crazy when wanted to keep street address confidential -- guess no mysterious fire gutted his apt, timing/circumstances v. convenient, while I was NYC to the PSC convention, shortly after submitting Denounce Izzy Apartheid resolution to local (attn. Max;) Human Rts Commish. Well shld have known better than write Letter To Ed, but had this notion, Bee kept talking about The Peace Process which I knew did not exist, felt obliged to share that info w/ local Concerned Citizens, but shlda stood in bed.

Oh, Brandy, forgot to tell you that SUSTAIN shirt is close to mint condition, only washed cpl times, looks like new. Too tame for me: if I wanna wear a political t-shirt, prefer the one w/ Hamas flag on front & Hizbollah flag on back. Or is it verse-vicey? Wonder how hard it wd be to silkscreen this blowup poster of Hassan Nasrallah? "Viva Nazralla!"

Hehe, I only leave the house nowadays to "epater les peasniques", since Political Action in Sac is even more futile than rest of US.

Hmm, tried the "more articles by Lorand" link, brought me back to DV. I'll try googling you, thanks again for on-target focus,

hp: Okay, stopped laughing. Excellent stmnt. B Balkas ditto. Hey db, long time no read, thanks for above.

Brandy: I got my "we are all Palestinians" tshirt from "SUSTAIN", dunno if they still in the biz, was five yrs ago. Maroon, if y don't score one elsewhere you can have this one, just pay the s&h? XL, too big maybe?

Harvard: oh boy, what a scam. Like Louie Catorze et al, you keep the best musicians, painters, comedians, dancing girls, soothsayers etc etc at your court. Remember "Camelot", the best & the brightest? It's like Baseball, become just one more tool of Social Control, like John Wayne movies.
Myself I view all professional Academics with extreme suspicion, just as I view "Journalists", lawyers, cops, Ex-CIA "whistleblowers". Yes a few may on balance qualify as Allies, but most aren't worth the powder to blow them to Colma.

(lil town adjoining SF, single land use: Cemeteries.)

Interesting though, how Acropolis of WASP Xstian Civilization became Acropolis of Zionism. As Gilad A. said: how things have Change.

Oh, right, forgot to mention Progressive Generals. Anybody remember Afghanistan & "Revolution From Above"? 1976 some CPUSA professor lady had the nerve to send a student upstairs to knock on my door, axe me to stop practicing my Tres-Dos because they were having a Seminar floor below, "Theory of Afghan Revolution".

Not that said Generales lacked Good Intentions: fell afoul of the Che Guevara Syndrome. Which is when Revolutionary Big Shots are so entranced by their own intellectual brilliance they start treating the Little People as nothing but factors in their Dialectical Equations, regardless of what Little People themselves may think or want.

Best Regards,

Free speech like this?
I especially like the "unrecorded voice vote" part.
You know, so no citizen will know how his/her representative voted.
Isn't this special?

JGST: the issue is very simple and transcends the rights or wrongs of the Middle East situation. It is one of free speech: either you have it in this country or you do not. If you advocate free speech for yourself and deny it to those of opposing viewpoints, you are really not in favor of free speech at all. It sounds like you belong to the "free speech for me but not for thee" crowd.

Speaking of money in academia.
Here's Harvard. Shocking I tell you! Just shocking!
No need to shoot the messenger.

"Walk around Harvard and the Kennedy School, what are the names on the buildings? Taubman, Rubenstein, Belfer, Weiner. Where do you think the money is coming from in academia?" I mentioned that Walt's own chair is endowed by Robert Belfer, who I believe is on the advisory board of Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a thinktank that Walt and Mearsheimer attack. The woman said, "This is why tenure is important."

This is merely a more subtle form of totalitarianism than that used in the past. It's what we might call "refined civilization".

Free Speech has always only been for those whose voices can reach the ears of others (for others it's the freedom to speak irrelevantly). The only difference expressed by this piece is that people who used to sometimes be able to be heard (dissident professors) now cannot - welcome to the club - many of us have been here for decades or centuries.

Maybe if you're able to regain the ears of others you'll start looking around and finding others who have never reached the ears of others.
