The U.S. "war on Hugo Chavez" is a textbook example of the hypocrisy of our govt. Chavez is a democratically elected official. Isn't exporting democracy a big deal with U.S. politicians?? Chavez uses his country's oil resources to improve living standards for all Venezuelans - not just the rich. Improved living standards help to bring more peace and less civil strife that can spill over into other nations. If only Mexico would get the hint and help its non-rich citizens so they wouldn't have to come over here for our jobs. Venezuela doesn't aid and abet terrorists who wreak havoc on U.S. citizens, unlike our so-called friends in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan.

So what's the rub against Chavez? Why is he U.S. boogeyman #1? Because he refuses to kowtow to every whim of our govt and its corporate puppet masters. He demands fair business dealings so his country's people, especially the always neglected poor and indigenous, will share in the wealth of the nation. If only we could find a Chavez to run this country.

Like most subjects, U.S. citizens are kept ignorant and misinformed about Chavez by a media whose sole role in life is to disseminate whatever spin/propaganda directed by the govt and corporate America. This includes a disappointing number of left leaning media and Democrats who are either silent when it comes to dispelling the disinformation about Chavez (or any other world leader who fails to kowtow to our greed/hawk based demands) or participate in the smear/fear campaign against him.
