The overthrow of Allende (with the help of the US), a legitimately elected President was repulsive. The success of Chavez illustrates that he is great political strategist. The great wealth of national resources, namely the largest reserve of petroleum when the price of oil per barrel is high, that Venezuela possesses and the financial power that it weals is Chavez's ace. South America can count its blessings to have somewhere else besides the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to find loans to better their people's lives.
I don't think Allende was quite so lucky, plus his efforts to ameliorate the lives of the poor in his short presidency served to educate the rest of South America nations methods not to use.
Thank you Dr. Petra's for such a fine article. Will read more from you.
