Wendy,

Stop pretending that you wish Cindy was campaigning harder in SF. Be happy and celebrate with your little flag. You're wasting your time

Cindy $heehan sure is the world traveler. She just put out an article about a recent trip to Egypt too, among many other places she has visited. Funny thing is she has criticized the lack of media attention she has received here in San Francisco regarding her campaign, but how does she expect to get any attention here when she is spending her time in other countries? As for Raul Castro, like The Who said, "meet the new boss…same as the old boss." Dissent will continue to be crushed, and human rights will continue to be violated.

Many Americans like to sanctimoniously condemn 'Communist' Cuba with its longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality rate, superior healt and education systems. Cruel sanctions did as little to harm Castro as the CIA's puerile assassination attempts, but great harm was caused to innocent Cuban men, women, and children, just as American sanctions in Iraq left Saddam unscathed but killed upward of 500,000 children, a holocaust that ex-Secretary of State Madeline Allbright declared 'worth it'. (!)

As with its meddling in Iran in 1953, many Americans will have forgotten or never knew that before Castro Cuba was hardly a democratic paradise, but a playground for crooks and the Mafia under the ultra-corrupt Batista.

It's so amazing that given the blatant crimes and outrages of the Bush administration that the Torturer-in-Chief would dare point the finger at any other nation on earth. Is he crazy or something?

Cuba is the case study of American international destruction.

On the our side of the Gulf we spew the rhetoric of "if Cuba wasn't communist then they wouldn't have this problem!"

And of course, Mr. and Mrs. Average Joe are all set to jump on board this ship. But in reality, the reason Cuba was in dire condition was NOT their form of government - but the stranglehold placed on them economically by the US government.

So, we choke them dry, then blame THEM for being choked. And people fall for it hook, line, and sinker. Fidel Castro was NOT an evil man. In fact, he kept to himself in Cuba - and didn't try to invade any nearby countries. Sure, one could try make an argument with the Cuban Missile Crisis - but that was simply retribution borne of frustration.

Can't say that for a certain North American nation.
