This demeaning dose of drivel is further testimony that most Americans are so arrogant and self-consumed that they cannot, will not consider that they are the victims of their own greed.
Well said and just stick around a few years to watch the end of the story. There is still time to stop the Earth from becoming a very tuff place to live on but so far it's business as usual just kant seem to help ourselves. Sad in many ways.

I agree with John: this article is insulting to the millions of Americans who are renters. I've rented for over 35 years, and unlike a lot of homeowners I know (or not!) -- witness the yards full of cast off automobiles, the garbage strewn across the landscape -- I've always taken great pride in my living space, in and out. I've always paid my rent on time, and done my best to have a cordial relationship with my masters, er, landlords. So somehow, my personal choice and responsibility translates, both as a taxpayer and as a citizen, into being a lower class citizen than those who, often foolishly, choose to invest in a life of servitude so they can "own"? Just what is home ownership about anyway? Paying and playing into the game of subservience to megalithic banks and corporations to be able to claim I "own" a box and a small piece of earth? Supporting the rights of cities to sue the corporate criminals who will simply turn and pass the expenses on to all of us, homeowners, renters, or otherwise (including the homeless)? I've always disdained the capitalistic, western-culture concept of ownership -- none of us owns the land or the materials savagely wrested from the earth to construct the hideous artifacts of an impoverished culture. This demeaning dose of drivel is further testimony that most Americans are so arrogant and self-consumed that they cannot, will not consider that they are the victims of their own greed. Ultimately, we are all mere renters!

A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. The true value of a human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive. 1954 Einstein

John Wilkinson what you just wrote in many ways is what Einstein wrote in 1954. Keep writting

"Homeowners, as opposed to renters, are the building blocks of stable communities."

I see, us renters are just a bunch of white trash. Transients, rapists, murderers, prostitutes and the like. It's so much better to have the life sucked out of you by the "American dream". It's so much better to be "responsible" and to dedicate your life to sucking life savings out of the naive and the old grammas.

And funny, how most murderers on cop shows were actually "responsible" home owners.

And yes, now the "irresponsible" (but in reality very responsible) renters will be asked to bail out the "responsible" (but in reality irresponsible) homeowners, bankers, real estate agents etc., with our hard earned tax dollars.

This 2+2=37 math and logic has gotten us this far into the mudpile, but no, we haven't had enough, let's see if it's possible to sink any lower.

You know, I had feelings of solidarity with these mortgage holders, but if this is how you think of us GO TO HELL!!!!
