To the person who just posted. . . and you're not black, and from the way you write, you are obviously part of the problem.

Ms. Dubos has written eloquently about a situation that is grievous to most blacks, and many whites -- though few of them are "from near Jena LA"

To the author of this. Stop repeating long disproven untruths and do some fact checking on your own. Your not from Jena and you know nothing about this. If it had not been for Sharpten we would not be seeing nooses accross the US he did it not Jena.

"An FBI agent revealed the true motivation behind the placing of two nooses in the tree the day after the assembly. According to the expulsion committee, the crudely constructed nooses were not aimed at black students. Instead, they were understood to be a prank by three white students aimed at their fellow white friends, members of the school rodeo team. (The students apparently got the idea from watching episodes of “Lonesome Dove.”) "

The three young teens had no knowledge that nooses symbolize the terrible legacy of the lynchings of countless blacks in American history. When informed of this history by school officials, they became visibly remorseful because they had many black friends

Strangley the blacks also had no knowledge of this and stuck there heads into the nooses and laughed about it.

Oprah didn't get to where she is by challenging the basic tools the US ruling class uses to maintain its hegemony. She's a part of that elite, and the fact that she's black doesn't change the fact that it's in her material interests to maintain the fundamental reality as it is. Anyways, I think it's backwards to single out one of the few black members of the elite for not seriously getting to the root of racism and economic equality; the blame should be spread around.

Racism is alive and well in the US. So is economic based prejudice. Oprah could use her wealth and media exposure to expose both issues, but she prefers to use her on-air time to deal with trivia.

As an African-American woman I request we all stop minimizing the incident in the school yard. It was not a "fight." A fight is not one on six. I realize that many wanting to help ran a little free with the truth in real time. Now that Mychal Bell has turned out to be not a saint but a rat turning on the other five, can we all start dealing with reality?
First step, six on one is an attack. It is not a "fight."
Second step, five young men need support now. They're not only facing a system that has shown a desire to punish them for race, they also have to address the fact that Bell cut his own little sweet heart deal and will be testifying against him.
Bell was never a saint. He was on probation, many times over, for various reasons including assaulting a female.
Now that he's set his own end up, five young men need a media that will stand up for them.
