The reason for this is that they would get harassed by the gov't. You can see that in how the alternative new press is tampered with by them with the little guys among the alternative press. If the gov't harasses the little guys in the alternative press, then why not the mainstream media? Who's to stop them? The gov't also sabotages online contributions from people. That's happened to me many times for me speaking out against the gov't. (Namely when I speak out against the gov't on some posts I get my stuff typed but not printed.
