I always say that, fundamentally, Catholicism is a revolutionary ideology and there is nothing "conservative" about it in terms of wanting to "conserve" the world as it is today. There is thus nothing radical about Benedict's positions. He is following his own logic of re-affirming the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church.

The fun will be Giuliani. He claims to be a Catholic but supports abortion and is no great defender of the sacrament of matrimony either. It seems that the US bishops are going to issue a pastoral letter going into the election and you can bet that it will urge Catholics not to vote for candidates who are pro-choice. Hillary may be pro-choice, but she is not a Catholic. Forced to choose between a "turncoat" Catholic in disagreement with the Church on almost everything, and someone who is pro-choice on the basis of her own, non-Catholic, religious beliefs, I would guess that many Catholics will choose Hillary.

Even more fun would be an anti-abortion, third-party candidate!

To crown it all, the Pope will be in the US sometime next year. I think in September to address the UN. You can bet your best soutane he will denounce abortion!
