This is one heck of an article. And I regret I just posted my IVAW-notice and "ran" without reading it. My only criticism is quite minor, because the author's, and the commentators', points regarding DU (depleted uranium, U-238) remain as valid regardless.

I think, there were not "nearly a billion tons of" DU itself by the late 1980's, but nearly a billion tons of "containment" material and the DU that was stored in it.

I can't say I would be happy to be corrected; but I could live with it. "It" being nearly a billion tons of DU itself by the late 1980's.

if i'm not mistaken, DU dust has been picked up on monitors in the UK also, carried on the trade winds.

soldiers and their families just have no idea inre DU. time and time again, i've mentioned DU/testing to active duty families, and am met with utter and complete ignorance.

here, north of dallas tx, we've witnessed tanks/personnel carriers being returned stateside, transported by rail uncovered and completely open to the ambient environment, many of the tracks run through areas of high human density.

Of course the effects of DU are not limited to Iraq. Iraq's neighbors are also suffering. Syrian boarder towns have had 30-40% increase in cancer rates since the American invasion in 2003.

Here are a few articles worth reading:

The authors provide yet more clear irrefutable information on why decent people should quit the two parties, starting with the Dem party, and seek (or build) an alternative. And no BS along the lines of jibes like "OK, join that third party and let's see how many Supreme Court nominees your party's candidate will ever nominate, etc, etc " to dissuade them can work as long as one keeps facts like the ones given here in mind. This is what their joint action has brought the world.

"IVAW to Show Military Opposition to the Iraq War on October 27 -

If you are a soldier or veteran who has served on active duty or in the Reserves or National Guard since 9/11, and you are frustrated and angry with the way our military has been used and abused to wage an occupation against the people of Iraq, then know that you are not alone. On October 27th, veterans, soldiers, and citizens will gather in 11 cities around this country in a national expression of the breadth and depth of antiwar sentiment in this nation. One of the biggest gatherings of IVAW members will be in Boston, where IVAW members from across the Northeast will come together for a fundraiser on Friday night, the march on Saturday, and a regional meeting immediately following the march. If you are a veteran or active duty person interested in meeting IVAW members in Boston, please email newengland@ivaw.org or boston@ivaw.org. The Seattle chapter has also been integral in the planning of their regional march, please contact seattle@ivaw.org to connect with fellow veterans in the Northwest. For additional information on regions and chapters participating in the October 27 marches and demos, including those in NYC, LA, and Orlando, please contact the regional coordinator or chapter in your area, http://www.ivaw.org/chaptersandregions. Check www.Oct27.org for directions to the events and additional information."
