One thought for your consideration. Those who run the country don't really care what happens in Washington-they care mainly about what happens on Wall Street. So while shutting down the government would certainly get their attention, what would really make them take notice would be a general strike. In my opinion, a better day for it would be May 1, 2008 with an additional threat for a full week work stoppage on Sept 1-8., and a full month strike starting on May 1, 2009 if the troops are not withdrawn by then. Given that May 1 is also international workers day, it would also be an chance to make common cause with the economic-in addition to the military-victims of the new economy, lots of them in your home town, as you know.
