To speak its name is to invite abuse and denigration, although the Rightwing media operate highly effectively to keep its role obscured. The gravest damage for the West resides in the harm being done to our organs of cognition. Living in a world where reality is constantly distorted to suit the interests of the powerful and psychotic, where truth is inverted and the victims become the aggressors and the violent assailants innocents abroad, diminishes our capacity not only to tell right from wrong, but fact from fiction. No wonder this development goes hand in hand with the rises of religious obscurantism and scientific irrationality as witnessed by the Climate Change Denialism cult. Perhaps our Masters see a deluded, ignorant mass as easier to control. Keep us amused with bread (cheap oil) and circuses (Iraq, Lebanon) and leave the Augean mess to future generations to cope with as best they can.
