Political debate in Colombia tends to be highly polarised, as I have pointed out before:

http://www.dissidentvoice.org/2007/05/colombia%e2%80%99s-magical-realism/ (Comments)

The president himself often intemperately shouts 'terrorist!' or 'Communist!' at anyone who criticises his actions, or who prefers to think a little deeper and doesn't simply follow what he says without question - his latest tirades are against the United States' Congress, and the French, Spanish and Swiss governments, no less, which at least makes a change from abusing opposition Congress representatives or independent journalists, anyway.

At least in Colombia, the president's tactics have some impact. The limited media often take their cue from Álvaro Uribe and criticise those who question him as 'unpatriotic', and as hurting 'Colombia.' Some commentators, such as the one above, then take this to a further extreme and compare critics to 'guerrillas', as though there is no other choice but to support the president or the Farc.

This article comments on an alternative to this polarisation:

http://www.dissidentvoice.org/2007/06/another-colombia-is-possible/

The 'Club Colombia' article above, however, is concerned with highlighting the limited 'editorial pluralism' in Colombia that while fully, and completely justifiably, criticises the guerrillas for their elitist terrorist tactics that continue to cause immeasurable harm to Colombians, does not seriously challenge, criticise or call to account the actual ruling elite in Colombia for their equally destructive relations with the paramilitaries.

An investigative and independent press is essential in the effort to draw Colombians away from the extremism and violence that characterises 'politics' in this country.

“We have been trained to be like this by our European Ancestors” What???? So, now we are trying to argue based on this kind of anachronism??? What this country needs is accept ones and for all that this is a civil war and the only way out of a civil war is with serious peace talks Not calling your enemy “terrorist” just because the CIA told you.

I was victim of violence in Colombia several times and feel you are totally wrong.

I regret to mention that this past June 18th killed 11 Colombians who where kinnaped 5 yrs ago, amazingly Senator Petro, their colleague hasn't pronounce a word despite those 11 where state senate leaders, wow, so much criticism about everything but if you are gonna be zero tolerance, then add Him and Yourself. War in Colombia has been ordinary people, union leaders, journalist and public leaders.

Worst than all, we have been trained to be like this by our European Ancestors, so if this was right for them, why is so bizarre for you know, forgot your past maybe?, I think we are almost alone, being able to switch to a peacefull place in earth, and it won't happen while the rest of the world just sat to critize on our governors instead of helping us on time and effective ways, not with ammunition for rifles, nor with fire words to our world type economical system.

As it is today, you and your thoughts are taking us to very isolated ways for recovery, Are you sure Colombia is that draw?
